Qian Liao is a photographer working between Shanghai and London. She completed her MA in Commercial Photography at London College of Communication (UAL).
Her photography strips away excess while revealing emotion and observation, using simplicity to unravel complexity, returning to innocence and essence. Her way of observing was shaped by her years as a dental surgeon, where she learned to notice tiny shifts in facial expressions and subtle body movements — to read the unspoken discomfort in her patients. She is also drawn to finding unexpected bonds between different things, crafting narratives and exploring the essence of what lies beneath.
